Assistant /Associate / Full Professor – Program Director, Infectious Diseases, Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Residency Program Director (PD), Infectious Diseases. The Division offers the largest training program in Infectious Diseases in Canada (8-10 residents) alongside faculty members who are national and international leaders in education and research. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date for the PD term will be July 1, 2020 or an alternative date as mutually agreed on.

The Infectious Diseases PD is a leadership position, highly valued and pivotal to the overall success of the Division and the Department. The Infectious Diseases PD is responsible for the overall conduct, organization and accountability of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada’s Infectious Diseases residency training program. The PD will be supported by the Residency Program Committee; the PD reports jointly to the Vice-Chair, Education or his/her designate and the Departmental Division Director. The PD is also accountable to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.

The ideal candidate is a respected clinical teacher and innovative leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with an interest in education scholarship. A solid track record of scholarship and innovation would be a strong asset. They will ensure that residents are able to achieve the competencies of Infectious Diseases and that they are thoroughly prepared for their Royal College examinations and future careers as Infectious Diseases Specialists.

Applicants must hold an MD degree, be a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Infectious Disease Specialist or be eligible for certification in the RCPSC and licensure in Ontario. The preferred hospital site for the Program Director’s clinical activities will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will be one of the following fully-affiliated University sites: Sinai Health Systems, St. Michael’s Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University Health Network, Sinai Health System or Women’s College Hospital. The PD for Infectious Diseases will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine and may negotiate further salary support from the clinical site practice plan. The PD will have support from an administrative assistant.
