Faculty Lead, Equity

 

Assistant /Associate / Full Professor – Faculty Lead, Equity, Vice-Chair of Culture and Inclusion, Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Faculty Lead, Equity, within its Culture and Inclusion portfolio. Applicants must hold a full-time clinical academic appointment in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher and have successfully passed the academic probationary period. The term of appointment is three years renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date will be November 1, 2020, or as mutually agreed upon.

Reporting to the Vice-Chair, Culture and Inclusion, the Equity Lead will oversee the development and implementation of evidence-based strategies to enhance diversity and an inclusive culture within our department, ensuring an evaluation component exists to measure strategy impact. Activities might include initiatives aimed at faculty and learner recruitment, equitable processes for selection committees and other major Departmental activities; education related to equity, inclusion and anti-racist practice; outreach to specific groups including but not limited to people with disabilities, Black and Indigenous people and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community within our Department. They will be expected to create a governance structure that ensures broad engagement of department members and to work with stakeholders in the Department of Medicine to bring an equity lens to all major policy, departmental activities and practical decisions.

The ideal candidate is dynamic, will have experience building community and common purpose. They will be approachable, a clear communicator and will convey a deep sense of understanding, either through lived experience, sensitivity, strong moral values and or a combination when working with intersectional content. They will be aware of departmental social and environmental issues, demonstrate professionalism, sensitivity, have experience advocating and supporting needs of people, and or groups, have demonstrated knowledge of Departmental and Faculty initiatives related to the portfolio, and demonstrated experience and capacity for leadership in equity initiatives.

They will be expected to create a governance structure that ensures broad engagement of department members and to work with stakeholders in the Department of Medicine to bring an equity lens to all major policy, departmental activities and practical decisions.

The ideal candidate is dynamic, will have experience building community and common purpose. They will be approachable, a clear communicator and will convey a deep sense of understanding, either through lived experience, sensitivity, demonstrated professionalism, strong moral values and or a combination when working with intersectional content. Experience working with hospital leadership on related initiatives is an asset.

They will be expected to create a governance structure that ensures broad engagement of department members and to work with stakeholders in the Department of Medicine to bring a mentorship lens to all major policy, departmental activities and practical decisions.

The ideal candidate is dynamic, will have experience building community and common purpose. They will be approachable, a clear communicator, will be aware of departmental social and environmental issues, demonstrate professionalism, be impartial and a trusted individual. Applicant will have experience advocating and supporting needs of people and or groups, demonstrated knowledge of Departmental and Faculty initiatives related to the portfolio, experience and capacity for leadership in mentorship and experience mentoring across the academic lifespan.
