The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Residency Program Director (APD), Internal Medicine. The Division offers the largest training program in Internal Medicine in Canada (200 residents) alongside faculty members who are national and international leaders in education and research. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date for the APD term will be March 1, 2021 or an alternative date as mutually agreed on.
The Internal Medicine APD is a leadership position, highly valued and pivotal to the overall success of the Division and the Department. The Internal Medicine APD will assist the Program Director for Internal Medicine and will be jointly responsible for the overall conduct, organization and accountability of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada’s Internal Medicine residency training program. The APD will be supported by the Residency Program Committee. The APD reports jointly to the Vice-Chair, Education or his/her designate and the Program Director, Internal Medicine. The APD is also accountable to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.
The ideal candidate is a respected clinical teacher and innovative leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with an interest in education scholarship. A solid track record of scholarship and innovation would be a strong asset. They will ensure that residents are able to achieve the competencies of Internal Medicine and that they are thoroughly prepared for their Royal College examinations and future careers as Internal Medicine Specialists.
Applicants must hold an MD degree, be a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Internal Medicine Specialist or be eligible for certification in the RCPSC and licensure in Ontario. The preferred hospital site for the Program Director’s clinical activities will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will be one of the following fully-affiliated University sites: Sinai Health Systems, St. Michael’s Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University Health Network, or Women’s College Hospital. The APD for Internal Medicine will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine and may negotiate further salary support from the clinical site practice plan.
