Emergency Medicine: SHSC Emergency Department Chief

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Aikta Verma as the new Chief, Department of Emergency Services for Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC).

In her role as Chief, Dr. Verma will be working to build partnerships that help to facilitate improved coordination of patient care across the health system. Dr. Verma will begin her new role as Chief on February 1, 2019.

Dr. Verma is currently the Director of Clinical Operations in the Emergency Department and is Assistant Program Director for the Emergency Medicine residency training program at the University of Toronto. Dr. Verma will continue in her role as APD until January 31 2019. An announcement will be made in the next few days to initiate the application process for a new APD.

Please congratulate Dr. Verma on her new role. We also want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Zuhair Alsharafi for his excellent leadership as interim ED Chief at SHSC over the past two years. Dr. Alsharafi will remain in his role as Interim Chief until January 31, 2019.
