It is with great pleasure that I announce Dr. Ryan Brydges’ appointment to the Professorship in Technology-Enabled Education – a Hospital-University held, five-year term Professorship – effective April 3, 2017. Ryan will also take on the role of research director at the Allan Waters Family Simulation Centre, St. Michael’s Hospital.

Ryan’s vision for the Professorship in Technology-Enabled Education will be realized through collaborative research, thoughtful innovation, and commitment to quality improvement. He believes now is the time for aligning the education and patient safety missions in our healthcare institutions.

Ryan conducts his research in health professions education, with a focus in healthcare simulation since 2006. His research program concentrates on three related domains: (i) clarifying how health care trainees and professionals manage or ‘self-regulate’ their life-long learning, (ii) understanding how to optimize the instructional design of health care simulation, and other technology-enhanced learning modalities, for training and assessment of health care professionals, and (iii) identifying best practices in the training and assessment for bedside invasive medical procedures.

Ryan will continue with his appointments as an assistant professor and education scientist in the Department of Medicine, University of Toronto, and the Wilson Centre, University Health Network.

Congratulations, Ryan.
