  welcome

Welcome to the Education Scholarship Website for the Department of Medicine

What exactly is Education Scholarship? There are many definitions and frameworks available, but put simply, educational work is considered scholarship if:

  • A scholarly approach was taken during development (e.g., review of existing resources, literature, theoretical frameworks or best practices in the field, consultation with experts/peers, an attempt to build on the work of others).
  • The effectiveness of the activity was evaluated (e.g., teacher ratings, learner satisfaction/gains in knowledge, formal examinations, etc.).
  • The educational work was disseminated in a format that can be used/adopted/built on by others (e.g., presentations or posters at local or other meetings or conferences, web-posting, publication in the literature, etc.)

There are several accepted categories of education scholarship, including teaching, curriculum development, learner assessment, mentoring/advising and leadership/administration.

As you read through the resources attached, you may find that the work you're already doing can "count" as scholarship - if you just take a couple of extra steps! To learn more, click here.
