Residency Training Programs

The Residency Programs offered by the Department of Medicine meet the accreditation requirements of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Each of the 19 programs is run by a Program Director who reports to the Division Director and the Postgraduate Residency Program Committee for the Division. All programs emphasize and evaluate the seven essential roles laid out in the CANMEDS 2000 initiative of the RCPSC.

Most programs offered in the Department of Medicine consist of a minimum of four (4) years of training. The training regulations for specialty or subspecialty training can be found at the RCPSC web site. To obtain further information or advice on selecting programs please contact the Core Internal Medicine office, or the Residency & Fellowship Postgraduate Education office, or contact the specific residency Program Director.

The programs offered consist of five (5) PGY1 Entry (direct from medical school) programs and 14 PGY4 Entry programs.  PGY4 Entry programs are available after completion of three (3) years of Core Internal Medicine Training.
