CaRMS Selection & Interview Process

Selection Process for Canadian Medical Graduates (CMGs)
Every application to the Core Internal Medicine Program is carefully reviewed by 2 members of the selection committee. All applicants are evaluated using the same criteria, which includes:

  • past academic history
  • reference letters
  • personal statement

In select cases a third review will be undertaken to ensure that all candidates have a complete and consistent review. Approximately 200-210 interviews are granted for those coming through the CMG stream.

What to Expect at the Interview
The interviews will be approximately 30 minutes in duration. No video conferencing or telephone interviews are available.

A Resident's Perspective
Applicants who are selected for an interview will be given the opportunity to speak with current Core Internal Medicine residents. This will provide you with an opportunity to learn about the program, rotations and the city, from a resident's perspective.

Please note: conversations with our residents are informal and will not be shared with members of the interview/selection committee.

Information for International Medical Graduates (IMGs)
The University of Toronto Core Internal Medicine Program encourages applications from IMGs.

Core Internal Medicine Video
Our residents have created a short video featuring key members from the Core Internal Medicine Program and our Teaching Hospitals. This video will be shown on each interview day but will also be posted here for the duration of the interview period.
