Applying for a dedicated research block

Trainees interested in this opportunity, in order to be considered, are required to submit the following:

 1. a complete curriculum vitae (including research experience),

 2. a brief description (maximum 2 pages plus cover page) from the applicant trainee concerning the research proposal with the following content: 

a. A cover page including 
  • trainee's full name and contact information (address, telephone, pager & e-mail),
  • supervisor(s) name(s) and contact information (address, telephone, pager & e-mail),
  • location of research, 
  • title of research project 
  • length of research elective (i.e., one month or two months)
b. A protocol including:
  • background and rationale
  • hypothesis
  • description of methods
  • possible outcomes 
  • relevance to the field of study 
  • relevance to career development of the applicant
  • It is essential that you indicate whether the proposal has been approved by a research ethics board and if not, indicate the date that it will be submitted for approval. 

3.  a letter from your proposed supervisor.  This letter should include: 

  • research elective goals for career development of the applicant
  • details of the supervisory commitment and process (e.g., the number of hours of interaction per week, resources provided to the trainee, opportunities to interact with other research staff and students)
  • willingness to complete a research in-training evaluation report 

     
    The applications for this research elective are adjudicated based upon the above information and are due sometime in early to mid-March each year.  Successful applicants are required to complete the usual PGY2 and PGY3 call at their base hospital.

    A committee reviews all submissions and results of the competition are made available towards the end of March/early April.
