Internationally Funded Trainees

International Medical Graduates, Visa Status, with Sponsored Funding

An increasing number of trainees from outside of North America are choosing to train in Clinical Fellowships or residency training programs at the University of Toronto. Many trainees are sponsored by their governments or other institutions.

The Faculty of Medicine has formal agreements with a number of governments concerning physician training at the University.  Applicants from these countries must have the sponsor contact the Coordinator, Visa Trainees at the Faculty of Medicine, Postgraduate Medical Education Office (PGMEO) to arrange sponsorship approval before applying to a training program.  After sponsorship has been approved, application to the Department of Medicine’s programs are handled by the PGMEO with the Postgraduate Program Directors for residency training and Postgraduate Fellowship Directors for Clinical Fellowship training.

For information and details concerning sponsorship, visit the PGMEO International Medical Graduate web page.
