9:30 to 11:00am

Panel on Education

  1. Faculty role in education in the department – Panelists will have 10 minutes per speaker including
  2. How to document your role in education - Anita Rachlis
  3. Questions and Answers after each panel speaker

 

11:00 to 11:15am BREAK
11:15am to 12:30pm

Academic Life Cycle

  1. Discussion of job descriptions, 3 year review, annual review - Wendy Levinson
  2. Three Year Review Process - Gary Naglie
  3. Promotion expectations and process - Dafna Gladman
12:30 to 1:30pm LUNCH
(all presenters are asked to attend lunch and mingle with new faculty)
1:30 to 3:15pm

The audience will be split based on career paths with clinician Investigators and scientists in one group, and clinician teachers and educators in the other.

Research nuts and bolts:  Greg Downey
This discussion will include ethics review process, conflict of interest, and faculty responsibilities in research.

Education:  Martin Schreiber
Discussion about strategies to successful Clinician-Teacher/Clinician-Educator careers, teaching dossier preparation, etc.

3:15 to 4:00pm How to get the most out of mentoring:  Laurie Morrison
Discussion on how to pick a mentor, and get the most out of the relationship for both the mentor and the mentoree
  1. formal vs. informal mentoring
  2. what are the benefits
  3. how to find one – what to look for
  4. when is it appropriate to reach out to your mentor
  5. what does a normal mentoring relationship look like
