Title: New Insights in the Management of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

Presenter: Dr. Pierre Delmas, Professor of Medicine, Claude Bernard University - Lyon, France

Objectives:

1. To understand the importance of bone quality in bone strength.
2. To understand why the increase in bone mineral density measured by DEXA explains only a small proportion of the anti-fracture efficacy of anti-resorptive treatments.
3. To have knowledge about the various markers of bone formation and resorption and their clinical utility.
4. To be aware of the data showing that the short-term decrease of bone turnover markers explain a large proportion of the anti-fracture efficacy of anti-resorptive drugs.
5. To be aware of recent evidence suggesting that using bone turnover markers for the monitoring of osteoporosis treatment might improve the long-term compliance.
