Science in Medicine: Innovative therapies from the gut: transforming the treatment of metabolic and gastrointestinal disorders

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize the role of the gut endocrine system in the control of energy ingestion and assimilation,
  2. Identify key gut hormones that are targets for drug development;
  3. Distinguish between different existing and emerging peptide-based therapies for treatment of metabolic disorders, and
  4. Identify subsets of patients that may be candidates for treatment with new gut-hormone-derived therapies.
