Sleep Apnea:  The Not So Silent Killer?

OBJECTIVES

1. To briefly review the definition of sleep disordered breathing including obstructive and central sleep apnea.
   
2. To examine the association between obstructive sleep apnea and several cardiac risk factors as well as possible benefits of treatment.
   
3. To review the literature to date examining the impact of sleep disordered breathing on heart failure and future research regarding modalities of therapy.
